This is not the intended purpose of the binoculars, but they still perform the tasks at a superb level of performance. They are light weight, and pretty powerful. They allow you to see everything a lot more clearly then a lot of the other models. The magnification is strong enough to let you see things at a distance, but not so powerful that you will spend forever trying to focus on something.They are great for hiking because they are extremely light weight. They come with a great neck strap that does not cut into your neck while your on your hike like other heavier binoculars. They are also water proof so getting caught in a rainstorm will not have any ill effects.
They are pretty good for anyone interested in bird watching. They work pretty good in low light situations, but they could be a little bit better at longer ranges. The nob in the center and the magnification power make them perfect for quick focusing on small object like bird and small critters.
